UPP’s Barbara Zvan has been named the 2025 CEO of the Year by the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) as part of its annual Ontario Business Achievement Awards (OBAAs), which celebrate leadership, innovation, and impact across Ontario’s business community.
The award recognizes exceptional CEOs who demonstrate vision, integrity, and measurable results. Barbara was recognized for her leadership in guiding UPP’s growth, strengthening the plan’s long-term performance, and embedding sustainability and inclusion into every part of its strategy.
“I’m honoured to receive this recognition, which truly belongs to the entire team at UPP,” said Barbara Zvan, President and Chief Executive Officer, UPP. “It reflects our belief that pension plans can deliver lasting financial security for members while being innovative, purpose-driven leaders in the transition to a more sustainable economy in Ontario.”

Since UPP’s launch in 2021, Barbara has led the organization through an ambitious build from inception to a fully operational, sector-wide pension solution built by and for Ontario’s universities and their faculty and staff. Under her leadership, UPP has expanded membership; established an inclusive, mission-driven culture; set a strong investment foundation; and advanced the Plan’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040 — ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement target. Her leadership continues to strengthen UPP’s position as a modern pension organization delivering stability and security for members today and tomorrow.
