Barbara Zvan named Canada’s CEO of the Year and Corporate Citizen of the Year by Globe and Mail’s Report on Business

UPP"s President and CEO Barbara Zvan recognized for exceptional leadership and outstanding contributions in the Canadian business realm.

UPP’s President and CEO, Barbara Zvan, has been selected as Canada’s CEO of the Year and Corporate Citizen of the Year by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business Magazine. An in-depth profile of Ms. Zvan is available on the Report on Business website and in print on Nov. 26, 2022.

“I am deeply honoured to be recognized by The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business as the 2022 CEO of the Year and Corporate Citizen of the Year. I share this award with all of UPP—what we’ve achieved this year has been a collective effort and would not have been possible without their tireless support and commitment,” shared Ms. Zvan.

“Barbara is a truly exceptional leader who has dedicated her career to enhancing the security and sustainability of defined benefit pensions. We’re proud of her inspiring leadership, both at UPP and in the global financial community,” said Gale Rubenstein, Chair, UPP Board of Trustees. 

Ms. Zvan became the inaugural president and CEO of UPP on July 21, 2020. Trained as an actuary, Ms. Zvan was formerly the Chief Risk and Strategy Officer (CRSO) for the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Recognized as a leading voice on sustainable investing and an ambassador for defined benefit pensions, Ms. Zvan is known for her efforts to bring institutional strength to complex challenges and forge new collaborative pathways for innovation and growth. She was appointed to the Government of Canada’s Expert Panel on Sustainable Finance, is a member of the Advisory Committee for the new ‘Investing to Address Climate Change’ Charter and played a significant role in creating the G7 Investor Leadership Network.

The Globe and Mail’s Report on Business CEO of the Year is an annual awards program showcasing exemplary leadership in corporate Canada. Each year, five CEOs are honoured for special achievements in leadership, strategy, social responsibility, vision, and innovation. The Corporate Citizen of the Year is awarded to a CEO whose personal leadership exemplifies the idea that businesses can do well by doing good. Winners are chosen by the Report on Business editorial team.
