Need help?
Contact our Member Services team if you have questions about when to expect your pension payment.
Income tax is automatically deducted from your pension payments using the basic personal exemption amounts.
Because these deductions are based only on your UPP pension, you may wish to speak to a trusted tax advisor to determine whether claiming additional tax credits (which may reduce the amount of tax deducted from your pension) or requesting additional tax deductions is appropriate for your situation.
Manage your tax deductions
Complete the TD1 and TD1ON forms and submit them through a secure message in the myUPP Member Portal .
Each year, by the end of February, you’ll receive a T4A by mail from CIBC Mellon, our pension payroll provider. You can access your T4A:
Living outside of Canada?
If you live outside Canada and are considered a non-resident, you’ll receive an NR4 tax slip instead of a T4A by the end of February. Income tax is deducted from your pension based on the rules that apply to your country of residence. Your NR4 will be mailed to you by the end of February and will also be available in the Documents section of the myUPP Member Portal.
Didn't receive your tax slips?
Before contacting Member Services, please check the Documents section of the myUPP Member Portal and also check the Overview section to confirm that your mailing address is up to date. Contact our Member Services team if you still need assistance.
The UPP portion of your pension includes conditional indexation, which is designed to help it increase when the cost of living rises.
UPP’s target is to provide annual pension increases equal to 75% of the increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), subject to the Plan’s overall financial health, and determined by the Joint Sponsors in line with their Funding Policy.
Current year's increase
Effective January 1, 2026, pensioners received an increase of 1.49% on the UPP portion of their pension, equal to 75% of the increase in CPI. If you earned pension benefits before your employer joined UPP, different indexation rules may apply to that portion of your pension. You can find details under the indexation section of your pre-conversion guide.
Supplemental pensions and post-retirement benefits
You may receive a supplemental pension or post-retirement health or dental benefits from your former employer. These benefits are administered by your former employer, not by UPP. Please contact them directly if you have questions about these programs.
